With terms such as “fake news”, “alternative facts”, and “post-truth” now in common parlance, it is more important than ever that researchers, policymakers, health care practitioners, technology developers, patients, and the public affirm their commitment to action based on evidence and collaborative approaches that will strengthen the evidence-to-action connection. The HTAi 2018 Annual meeting will provide an unparalleled opportunity to consider, debate and clarify the role of health technology assessment (HTA) in the health care ecosystem.
With three plenary sessions that all support the conference’s overarching theme of Strengthening the Evidence-to-Action Connection, the HTAi 2018 Annual Meeting will be a must-attend event for those in the global HTA community to consider and debate:
As the leading global discussion platform for all stakeholders engaged in the efficient production and use of HTAs in decision-making, HTAi supports and promotes the development, communication, understanding and use of HTA around the world as a scientifically-based and interdisciplinary means of informing decision making on the use of effective technologies and the efficient use of resources in health care. HTAi welcomes all stakeholders – patients/consumers, health care providers, academic researchers, HTA agencies, payers, policy makers, industry – to join us.
HTAi 2018 – “Strengthening the Evidence-to-Action Connection”
It is with much excitement that we invite you to join us at the next HTAi Annual Meeting, to be held June 1 – 5, 2018 at The Westin Bayshore Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
This is an important meeting for the Society as it represents a dynamic platform for researchers, agencies, policy makers, industry professionals, patients and health service providers to inspire and provoke productive discussions about the future of health technology assessment. HTAi 2018 will bring together more than 1000 delegates from around the globe to discuss these latest advances in this constantly evolving field.
Where is the uncertainty in evidence for health system decision making? What insights can HTA gather from the ways in which other disciplines, such as law, think about and deal with different types of and standards for evidence? How can HTA help bridge the gap between evidence and decision-making, whether at the macro-, meso-, or micro-level? How does HTA need to change to stay relevant in a “post-truth” world? Revolving around the conference’s central theme: “Strengthening the Evidence-to-Action Connection”, these are some of the questions and issues that will be covered at HTAi 2018’s Annual Meeting.
There will be three plenary sessions at which international experts will inspire delegates to think beyond the current state of HTA and to imagine a future when all parts of the
evidence-to-action ecosystem work in harmony.
The plenaries will consider the following topics:
The first plenary will focus on uncertainty in scientific evidence and the implications inherent in this uncertainty. The panelists will strive to provide perspectives from their own disciplines about how uncertainty is handled and how this might address concerns in the use of HTA for health system decision-making. The purpose of the second plenary will be to identify the gaps between evidence, policy and practice. This session will also examine the reasons for – and the consequences of – the disconnect between evidence, policy and practice. It will also showcase examples of where there has been successful implementation of evidence-informed decisions, allowing us to understand what has been required to bridge knowledge-to-action gap. Finally, the third plenary will explore what is needed to enable an effective, efficient and sustainable
evidence-to-action ecosystem. It will identify examples of where this eco-system is working well, where there needs to be better efforts to “connect the dots” and what linkages need to be established. To find out more, please follow this Link.
